As part of Adams 12 Five Star Schools Bond Improvement Program, Federal Heights Elementary needed interior and building updates. Over a tight summer schedule, phase 1 included upgrading the security system, adding card readers, cameras, a bullet-resistant transaction window & film and the clock system. The art rooms received new sinks, clay traps and kiln. A cargo net was added to the gymnasium and an acoustical separation system was installed above the music room. The buildings grease trap and sewer lines were replaced. The sanitary sewer system was repaired and floors replaced.
Phase 2 involved site improvements while the school was occupied by students and faculty. Work included the demolition of the existing playgrounds and replaced with ADA compliant play areas, grading a new detention pond designed for a 100 year flood, new asphalt parking lot, extending the bus lane, 100 LF of new MSE wall around the detention pond and parking lot, new athletic field, new landscaping and irrigation, new EIFS surface and metal panels for the entire exterior of the building, new site furnishings, shade structure, Tuff Shed, new stormwater line, removal of 25 LF of plumbing and grease trap and install new grease trap interceptor, demolition of three operable partition walls and install permanent walls.
